Opening Hours

For 2018:The Lunt opens on February 26 to schools. The Lunt will be open to public: Tuesday 3 April to Friday 13 April, Tuesday 29 May to Friday 1 June, Thursday 26 July to Friday 31 August (not Monday 27) , Monday 22 October to Friday 26 October. The Lunt closes on Friday 30 November 2018 for winter.

Volunteers make a huge difference to the work we are able to carry out.  They take on a wide range of jobs and activities in many different departments of the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum, the Transport Museum and the Lunt Roman Fort. New roles are being developed all the time. Opportunities for volunteers are advertised here.

Role: Holiday Helper

Where: Lunt Roman Fort, Baginton, Coventry

When: Weekdays (between 9:45 – 14:30) we can be flexible with times

Are you looking to develop your career working with children/families within a tourist attraction? Or do you already have a background in working with children/families/at a tourist attraction?

Would you enjoy getting involved with supporting our team at the Lunt Fort, 

to support family and school activities during the summer holidays, helping us to bring Roman history to life?

Are you a team player with a fun and hands on approach to tasks?

What does the role involve?

Under the supervision of the Engagement & Development Manager and Facilitators you would be required to:

o help to prepare and support ‘make and take’ activities with families at events or school children during organised visits; 

o meet, greet and interact with visitors to ensure they make the most of activities available during their visit and learn more about the history of the site; and

o helping to clear up after events and activities.

Skills, knowledge & qualities we are looking for

Previous experience of working with children/families would be ideal, but not essential

  • Strong interpersonal skills – a friendly and confident communicator
  • Good personal organisation skills
  • Fun loving with a great sense of humour
  • Good team player – always looking at ways you can support others


Benefits and training

Full training and equipment will be provided to carry out this support role and you will have the opportunity to:

Gain experience of work within a historical visitor attraction
Learn more about the history of the Lunt Roman Fort and Roman way of life
Utilise/gain experience of supporting activities for children and families
Develop your team working and communication skills

Please note that due to the rural location, public transport is infrequent, so own transportation is helpful.

 

School Helper 

Weekdays (between 9:45 – 14:30) we can be flexible with times.

Please note this role recommences at Easter.


Are you looking to develop your career within an education setting/working with children? Or do you already have a background in working with children?

 Would you enjoy getting involved with supporting our team at the Lunt Fort, to support educational activities with schools, to help bring our local Roman history to life? 

Are you a team player with a hands on approach to tasks?

What does the role involve?

Under the supervision of the Engagement & Development Manager and Facilitators you would be required to: 

  • Meet and greet school parties
  • Help prepare for school activities 
  • Support activities during the school sessions
  • Provide lunch cover for the Facilitators
  • Provide refreshments for teachers when required
  • Handout evaluation forms to teachers and assistants and collate these at the end of the session
  • Help clear up at the end of sessions

 

Skills, knowledge & qualities we are looking for

  • Previous experience of working with children or undertaking training to work with children in an educational setting
    Strong interpersonal skills – a friendly and confident communicator
  • Good personal organisation skills
  • Good team player – always looking at ways you can support others
