The Lunt Fort is open to the public during school holidays, Monday – Friday, 10 am – 3.30 pm. It will be open from Wednesday 22 July to Friday 4 September inclusive.

Volunteers make a huge difference to the work we are able to carry out.  They take on a wide range of jobs and activities in many different departments of the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum, the Priory Visitor Centre and the Lunt Roman Fort. Volunteer Opportunities at the Lunt

Volunteer Role - The Lunt Festival

Bank Holiday Weekend: 30th and 31st August 2015

Person specification

  • Are you friendly and interested in helping the public? 
  • Would you like to help host a great festival?*
  • Are you interested in history and re-enactments?

If the answer is ‘yes’ then we would like to meet you to discuss how you can help at this year’s Lunt Festival.

We need volunteers on Sun 30th and Mon 31st August,

both morning and afternoon

Role purpose

  • Meet and greet visitors
  • Assist visitors to strike replica Roman coins
  • Assist visitors to dress in armour and safely handle weapons
  • Attend the car park and give directions
  • Offer general help and cover breaks
  • Potentially wear Roman costume 


  • Work with museum staff to host an important festival
  • Gain confidence in communication and customer service
  • Be part of a team
  • Gain contacts and experience for applications and interviews
  • Immerse yourself in fascinating local history

Volunteer Gardener opportunity

Coventry Heritage & Arts Trust (Reg. Charity 1124704) needs a motivated and outgoing volunteer gardener to join the dedicated team of staff and volunteers at the Lunt Roman Fort, Baginton near Coventry.  For more details please email Rupert Hedley:
