Volunteers make a huge difference to the work we are able to carry out.  They take on a wide range of jobs and activities in many different departments of the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum, the Priory Visitor Centre and the Lunt Roman Fort. New roles are being developed all the time. Opportunities for volunteers are advertised here.

Event Stewards 


Needed for the Lunt Roman Festival: July 16th and July 17th (3 hours / half day or 7 hours / full day)

Do you enjoy taking part in local and fun community events?

 Would you like to get involved with supporting our team at the Lunt Fort to help bring our local Roman history to life in a fun and engaging way?

Are you a team player with a hands on approach to any task required?

What does the role involve?

Under the supervision of the Engagement & Development Manager, we have a number of different activities we need support with for events at the Lunt:

  • Greeters – this will involve wearing a Roman costume with some role play if you have some drama experience
    Supporting staff to sell guide books and collect donations which all support the running and development of the site
  • Car Park Attendants – directing visitors into car park spaces
  • Coin Strikers – helping to create keepsakes for visitors
  • Announcers – support at festivals to provide visitors with information on activities taking place
  • Box Office support – supporting staff to sell tickets at the gate for paid events

 
Skills, knowledge & qualities we are looking for:

  • Confident communication skills
    Knowledge of Roman History and willingness to develop this to site specific information
  • Fun loving with a great sense of humour
  • Reliable and trustworthy

 
Benefits and training

Full training and equipment will be provided to carry out this support role and besides enjoying being part of our fun programme of events, you will also have the opportunity to:

  • Gain experience at a historical site setting, learning more about the history of the Lunt Roman Fort
  • Build confidence and skills in all aspects of a small visitor attraction
  • Further develop your team working, communication and customer service skills

Please note that due to the rural location, public transport is infrequent, so own transportation is helpful.

School Helper

This role will be starting from June 6th 2016
Weekdays (between 9:45 – 14:30)
Minimum 2 days a week

Are you looking to develop your career within an education setting/working with children? Or do you already have a background in working with children?

 Would you enjoy getting involved with supporting our team at the Lunt Fort, to support educational activities with schools, to help bring our local Roman history to life? 

Are you a team player with a hands on approach to tasks?

What does the role involve?

Under the supervision of the Engagement & Development Manager and Facilitators you would be required to: 

  • Meet and greet school parties
  • Help prepare for school activities 
  • Support activities during the school sessions
  • Provide lunch cover for the Facilitators
  • Provide refreshments for teachers when required
  • Handout evaluation forms to teachers and assistants and collate these at the end of the session
  • Help clear up at the end of sessions

Skills, knowledge & qualities we are looking for

  • Previous experience of working with children or undertaking training to work with children in an educational setting
    Strong interpersonal skills – a friendly and confident communicator
  • Good personal organisation skills
  • Good team player – always looking at ways you can support others

  • Utilise/gain experience working within an educational setting with children
