It was family fun by the bucket-load at the Lunt Roman Fort recently as kids from around Warwickshire got involved in Scenes From the Lunt. Participants of all ages worked on recreating a Roman fort out of recycled materials under the friendly guidance of a local artist.
Anthony James, an artist from Nuneaton whose company, Creaturama, focuses on creating art from easily accessible materials, ran a drop in workshop for all ages to get involved with. The age range was wide, with even grandparents getting stuck in!
The participants were asked to draw a sketch of their favourite view at the Fort before using a wide variety of materials to recreate these views in 3D. The scenes were created from all sorts of household items, including cereal packets, lolly sticks, empty yoghurt pots, and drinking straws.
The scenes were finished off with masking tape Roman soldiers and paper horses drawing a yoghurt pot chariot. All the families involved had a fantastic time getting sticky as they let their imaginations run free picturing what Roman life would have been like when the Lunt Fort was originally built.
Further craft events will be running during the rest of the summer holidays, as well as our exciting Prize Discovery Trail, so if you want to create a giant Roman-style coin or dress up a peg doll as a Roman have a look at the What's On? page.
